It´s getting orange – Umadum sets an example against violence against women

Violence against women is more topical than ever. Especially in the Corona period, the numbers are rising steadily again. The organization Zonta would like to draw attention to the topic of violence against women all over the world with the campaign “Orange The World”. That Umadum radiates in this connection to 25.11. in a bright orange.

Orange The World: A worldwide campaign

On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, we will join numerous buildings in Munich and shine in orange light.
“Every third day in Germany a woman dies of partner violence,” explains Prof. Dr. Hoda Tawfik, President of the ZONTA Club Munich City, who is responsible for organizing the event in Munich.
“A world in which women can develop freely and live without fear of violence – we have come a long way from this goal again in Corona times worldwide. There are reports of a worrying increase in cases of violence against women and girls during the pandemic. This must stop! We are very pleased that the center of the plant quarter with the illumination of the Umadum is also participating in the worldwide Zonta campaign ‘ZONTA Says NO/Orange The World’ this year and is setting an example of outlawing violence against women. With the color orange we say together no.”

For almost 20 years now, November 25 has been celebrated as the International Day of Violence against Women. Accompanying events are dedicated to education and information, because the figures documenting violence against women are still frightening.
For example, every third woman from the age of 15 is affected by psychological, physical or sexual violence during her lifetime.
And more than 80 percent of the crime statistics show women as victims of partner violence.

In the USA, Niagara Falls glows orange on this day, in Paris the Eiffel Tower and in Munich – among other sights, so do we, the Umadum in the center of the plant district.
And together we say no to violence against women.
